We had a wonderful experience at the observatory last night. Our host - Jim the astronomer - had a wealth of knowledge and was clearly very passionate about his work. The night consisted of a mix of direct star gazing, viewing sights through three huge telescopes, and watching a short documentary. We saw some amazing things including the moon and it's craters, Saturn and it's rings and moons, Mars, a binary star and various start clusters amongst many other spectacular sights. There was a short period where clouds overtook the sky - something we unfortunately don't have any control over. It is a good 2 hours in the open air, so dress warmly and pack a beanie, although blankets are provided at the observatory. Well worth the journey to this little town.
